Background of the Study

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide, with the postpartum period being particularly critical for monitoring and managing heart health. In Nigeria, including Kaduna State, the burden of CVDs among women is significant, yet postpartum cardiovascular health education remains underemphasized. Cardiac nurses, with their specialized knowledge, are well-positioned to provide essential education on heart health during the postpartum period.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the critical role of cardiac nurses in postpartum care, there is limited research on their involvement in heart health education for women in Kaduna State. Challenges such as inadequate training, resource constraints, and cultural factors may hinder effective education delivery. This study aims to evaluate the role of cardiac nurses in providing postpartum heart health education and identify factors influencing their effectiveness.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the extent of cardiac nurses' involvement in postpartum heart health education among women in Kaduna State.

2. To evaluate the content and delivery methods of the educational interventions provided.

3. To identify barriers and facilitators affecting the effectiveness of these educational efforts.

Research Questions

1. To what extent are cardiac nurses involved in providing postpartum heart health education in Kaduna State?

2. What are the key components and delivery methods of the education provided by cardiac nurses?

3. What factors influence the effectiveness of cardiac nurses' educational interventions in the postpartum period?

Research Hypotheses

1. Cardiac nurses in Kaduna State are actively involved in providing postpartum heart health education.

2. The educational interventions encompass comprehensive content delivered through effective methods.

3. Various factors, including training adequacy and cultural considerations, significantly influence the effectiveness of these educational efforts.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on cardiac nurses working in maternity wards and cardiology units within selected healthcare facilities in Kaduna State. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observations to assess educational practices and identify influencing factors. Limitations may include potential biases in self-reported data, variability in educational practices across different facilities, and challenges in isolating the impact of education on patient outcomes.
